🍴 Dining Experience

I’ve had Guizhou Sour Soup, so this time I tried Guizhou BBQ 🍖 - Lao Guo (Pan-Fried Pot). The 3️⃣ of us ate a 168 RMB set for 2-3 people and ordered an extra portion of Anshun Small Sausages and Strange Flavor Potatoes 🥔, spending over 190 RMB in total.

  • Strange Flavor Rice (Guailu Fan) 🍚: Taste was average 😐. Didn’t taste the aroma of the crispy sentry (pork cracklings), and it lacked “wok hei”—not as good as the Gui Phoenix Strange Flavor Rice.

  • Lao Guo (Pan-Fried Pot) 🍲: Guizhou specialty BBQ pot. The set included beef, cured meat, shrimp 🦐, pork belly, pork 🐷 tendon, sweet potato jelly sheets (Shao Pi), and fresh zucchini. The ingredients were fresh and grilled up nicely 👍. The small bowl in the middle contains the dipping sauce. You can dip everything in it—sour and salty, a unique Guizhou flavor.

  • Anshun Small Sausages: 👍👍👍 Highly recommended, a must-order. The skin is charred—just looking at the color makes it delicious 😋. First, you get the crispy skin, then the chewiness inside—a textured mouthfeel. As for taste 👅, the charred aroma of the sausage and the fat aroma from the casing blend as you chew, like a wedding in your mouth, finally sending them to the bridal chamber—beautiful~. Although 38 RMB is a bit pricey, you won’t regret ordering it.

  • Bursting Tofu (Baojiang Tofu): 👍👍👍 Also a must-order. They look like miniature square pillows. The skin is also a bit crispy, with a soft center. One bite at a time, they don’t fill you up much. Good eaten plain or dipped in sauce 😌.

  • Strange Flavor Potatoes (Guailu Yangyu) 🥔: Average, maybe even a bit bad. Not sure if it’s because they removed the Houttuynia (Zhe’ergen). It’s just boiled potatoes 🥔 mixed with some pickled vegetables and seasoning 🧂. The pickled vegetables tasted average—lacking the vegetable’s original flavor, just sour. The potatoes themselves had no flavor, and since the pickles and seasoning were average, the potatoes turned out very average too 😑. Not recommended.

Summary: Delicious 😋 and inexpensive, economical and substantial yet affordable. Guizhou Lao Guo is worth a try (Guizhou dialect) 👍👍👍.

🥢Personal Rating

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 4.4 (4.4/5) (Except for the Strange Flavor Potatoes, it was surprisingly good 😌).
